Our Purpose

Inspired by the historic and storied relationship between Nathan “Nearest” Green, godfather of Tennessee Whiskey, and Jasper “Jack” Daniel, founder of America’s first registered distillery, the joint initiative by Uncle Nearest Whiskey and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey has established The Nearest & Jack Advancement Initiative.

Investing time, resources, and a pledge of $5 million, this joint initiative aims to provide mentorship to the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color) community who aspire to succeed in the distilled spirits industry.

The Nearest & Jack Advancement Initiative consists of three pillars. Two are administered directly by The Nearest & Jack Advancement Initiative while the other is administered by Motlow State Community College. We also host the Spirits on the Rise Summit each Spring. All these opportunities are made possible by the generous support of The Jack Daniel Distillery and the Nearest Green Distillery and in collaboration with industry professionals across the country as well as educational academics.
